Monsant-No

I know I'm promising a lot of quick and healthy meals but I figure y'all should be aware of some things as well so whenever I need to vent I will do so. Hopefully this is relevant to your lives... or at least interesting lol.

The Monsanto corporation is probably the biggest name in agricultural biotechnology right now. "what the hell is biotechnology?" you ask? It's basically genetically modified seeds and pesticides and all of the farm stuff that scientists take back to the lab to make genetically superior. I.E.: corn that can survive extreme heat, cabbage that is snail-proof, etc. Monsanto has literally copyrighted these genetically modified seeds and they are cracking down HARD on anyone who reuses or "steals" from them...

A wonderful article was written about it entitled Monsanto's Harvest of Fear. The Authors of this piece, Donald Barlett & James Steele, are widely lauded investigative journalists that have won a Pulitzer prize, among many other accolades, and have been working together for 30+ years. They tackle huge issues like Vaccines, medicare, and the collapsing Social Security benefit system. Long story short: they're a couple of stand up guys who know how to write a story.

Barlett and Steele use their paper to detail the atrocities that Monsanto has been dishing out to these poor farmers. the paper explains that Monsanto has a literal army of private detectives which they use whenever they suspect they are being stolen from; spending Millions of dollars every day in an almost vindictive assault on the community. The kicker is that the seeds can be re-deposited by everything from birds to the actual wind. Monsanto takes thousands of cases to court every year without so much as a phonecall to the farmers they are extorting.

Barlett and Steele truly paint a horrifying picture of the Bullying that the Monsanto Corp. does to these farmers. Monsanto's Harvest of Fear is a must read if you are at all interested in how Americas food is being produced. Barlett and Steele show us how terrible the company truly is and now it is our job to spread the word.
